William B Hoyt
"Wimby" spent much of his childhood painting and sailing. After graduating from Yale with a degree in fine art, he was commissioned in the US Navy, where he served on the staff of COMSIXTHFLEET. There, he was recognized for his artistic abilities, doing portraits of admirals and a portfolio of fleet activities for the Naval Art Collection. As a professional painter for many years, his subjects have included marine scenes, landscapes, and intimate still lifes. All his works share his interest in the effect of light at a particular moment.
Wimby is a well-known and active member in our community and a regular participant in Artistree's Life Drawing group.
