Artist’s description/ meaning: Mottainai is a Japanese term that conveys a sense of regret over waste, and has been adopted by environmentalists to encourage people to reduce, reuse, recycle and respect. All the materials in the book except perhaps the machine thread have been recycled or reused in the boro style of mending, including linen from a skirt I bought in Japan in 1984. Unique.
